Sometime in the 1980s, a kid sat in front of a ZX Spectrum typing BASIC from magazine listings. Line by line, character by character, hours of careful work for a program that might not even run. Most kids loaded games from cassette tapes. I made the clock work.

Twenty-six years of websites followed. The instinct never changed — build the thing yourself, make it do what you need. But the tools kept getting in the way. WordPress. Wix. SemRush. Subscriptions stacked on subscriptions. The gap was never the ambition. It was the tooling.

February 2025. I opened Claude for the first time. I didn't know Python. I didn't know Git. But I'd been typing code into machines since the Spectrum. The discipline was the same. Line by line, prompt by prompt, building an audit engine that would become the foundation of everything that followed.

What emerged wasn't a tool. It was an operating system. Infrastructure that manages resources, schedules processes, maintains state across sessions. One operator running three revenue streams, serving clients at boutique quality, building assets that compound — from a terminal.

I run We Build Stores — a boutique visibility consultancy in Telford. Thirty clients maximum. The kind of place where the person who answers the phone is the person who does the work.
